The Placement Committee ensures that students are ready to dive into the business role right after graduation. Faculty members adopt various measures to strengthen placement activities like conducting mock sessions for group discussions and personal interviews.
The Placement Department also assists learners in determining the appropriate career for them through one-to-one counselling and Personality Development Programs. Additionally, the department helps in the soft skill development of students with the help of numerous activities headed by industry experts. The focus of such development is primarily on communication skills, public speaking, team management, time management, and leadership, among various other relevant soft skills. EIILM-Kolkata follows a scientific placement procedure wherein it takes into consideration the competencies of students with varying backgrounds. The Institute has a methodical approach to ensure 100% placement every year. Accordingly, it has a module that the placement department adheres to very stringently and sincerely from the first day of the session. It helps the placement team to perform student mapping and gap analysis which is useful to bridge gaps continuously for the next four semesters.
Faculty members and placement team guide students in areas of communication, attitude, and body language in addition to core domain knowledge. Student’s Development Program is a recent addition to the module. Students undergo this program from the beginning of their course. It exposes students to corporate requirements, stern benchmarks, and simulated corporate situations. These sessions are conducted by industry veterans and experienced faculty members so that students get practical inputs and appropriate guidance. Additionally, such programs help students during their placement process.
The placement procedure at EIILM-Kolkata is quite elaborate. Students appearing for on-campus placement need to appear for 3 rounds of assessment – aptitude tests, group discussions, and personal interviews. However, these are at the discretion of the companies coming for recruitment. This assessment procedure for final placement ensures ‘right job for right candidate’. The placement department makes sure that students are satisfied with and are motivated to join the company and sector that they are placed in, and hence, prepares them accordingly.
EIILM-Kolkata has an elaborate placement grooming program that helps students to prepare themselves for the corporate world. The placement department grooms the management students not only to appear and crack job interviews but to conduct themselves appropriately in their professional domain throughout their career.
Generally, students have to appear for aptitude tests, group discussions, and personal interviews during the placement procedure. Students are guided and trained to enhance their aptitude skills. Aptitude test is crucial because it is considered as a round of elimination since many students appear for it. Thus, faculty members help the students to develop mathematical, verbal, logical skills so that they can pass the aptitude round seamlessly.
Weekly workshops are conducted to groom students accurately for group discussions. Teachers conduct mock group discussions in the classroom to make students acquainted with it. They help students to become more carefree and speak their hearts out in such setups. Each session of approximately 90 minutes has only 20 students so that each student present in that session participates and gets feedback for further improvement. Such sessions with small groups adequately train every learner because at EIILM every learner is important, every learner is precious.
Communication is the key when it comes to appearing for personal interviews. Thus, experienced faculty members and industry experts conduct workshops with students to help them understand the techniques and importance of effective communication. Starting from how to enter the room, how to sit, how to conduct oneself, and the body language one must use – students are trained on every aspect of a personal interview. After such workshops, one-to-one mock PI sessions are held with each student. Every student gets multiple mock sessions till s/he is absolutely equipped and gets placed. So each student gets an opportunity to improve after each such session.
To supplement the above model, EIILM-Kolkata also has tie-ups with global training companies like GHRDC that provide guidance and training to students for their placement for over a year. They conduct mock aptitude tests and group discussions, and mock personal interviews with students one-to-one. These sessions help students to get ready and become more confident to appear for the placement process.
